Eboné Bell on Pride: Protest, Power, Liberation
With Pride Month right around the corner, I wanted to take a moment to remind us all that Pride is about so much more than parades and rainbow flags. At its core, Pride is about protest, resilience, and the ongoing fight for liberation.
This June, let’s go deeper than the glitter and confetti. Let’s talk about the history, the struggles, and the powerful voices that built this movement — and the work that’s still ahead.
A few things we should all remember:
- Black trans women were at the forefront of this movement. And heartbreakingly, they continue to face some of the highest rates of violence today.
- One in four LGBTQ+ Americans experienced workplace discrimination in the past year.
- Over 575 anti-LGBTQ bills have been introduced across the U.S. — a staggering increase from last year’s already alarming numbers.
These realities make it clear why it’s so important to truly understand the LGBTQ+ community and actively show up as allies.
So let’s have the conversations. Let’s talk about intersectionality, inclusion, and what it means to build a world where everyone belongs.
Wishing you a meaningful, joyful, and powerful Pride Month. 🏳️🌈✨
