Keynotes

Embracing Burnout

Stress is not unheard of in academic spaces. Stress can lead to burnout, which impacts people’s ability to succeed in their life. Burnout shows extreme fatigue and apathy, impacting peoples’ mental health. In the program, Dr. Kate Steiner introduces a self-reflective process used to create a personalized sustainability and wellness plan. This plan is not about finding balance but rather creating a plan that allows each individual to observe their wellness, prepare for burn events and recover personally. Participants will develop stronger resilience and build a practice of addressing burn events in their lives.

ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT:
  • Participants will be introduced to research-backed practices meant to increase mental health awareness.
  • Participants will develop a personal plan to observe, plan and recover from burnout.
  • Participants will identify the importance of work/school/life integration and the impact on their mental health.

Drawing the Line

Creating, Setting, and Communicating Your Boundaries

We need human connection, but burnout will always be around the corner when we give all of ourselves to others. This program addresses the challenge of discovering our non-negotiable needs and holding ourselves and others accountable to those expectations. Setting and communicating boundaries and non-negotiables is integral to burnout recovery and building resilience to future burn events. Often our communication methods impact our ability to share what we need and want from other humans. Attendees will be introduced to a model that builds resilience to burnout, specifically by better understanding their boundaries and expectations.

ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT:
  • Attendees will be able to identify 5 types of boundaries that are important to consider when setting personal boundaries.
  • Attendees will develop a communication plan when they feel overwhelmed.
  • Attendees will be introduced to research on having crucial conversations and communication methods.

Seeking Authenticity

Living Beyond the Highlight Reel

So many of us are seeking authenticity; the ability to be our complete selves and the expectation of authentic relationships with others. But when we think about our own actions are we truly being authentic or are we still stuck on curating the highlight reel? This program addresses 4 key steps to achieving true authenticity; knowing self, setting boundaries, saying no, and forgiveness. Participants will walk away with an understanding that they can start creating authentic connections while letting go of the showmanship of living as a highlight reel.

ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT:
  • Participants will be introduced to a model that uses self-reflection to identify their true selves.
  • Participants will be able to identify the signs of showmanship.
  • Participants will be introduced to research regarding the benefits of being authentic on their health.
